Features:
Zinc is bluish shiny silver metal, hardness 2.5, pure zinc malleable,
containing a small amount of impurities are brittle. Good heat transfer,
electrical conductivity, chemical properties of more reactive. Room temperature
in the air more stable. Humid air generated in the layer of gray basic zinc
carbonate can be used as protective film. Zinc has blue-green flame when burned.
Reaction with water vapor at high temperature release of hydrogen. When heated
with halogen, sulfur and other reactions. Easily with acid reaction, but the
slow response of high purity zinc, if a small amount of copper sulfate solution,
or with copper, nickel, platinum and other metal contact, the reaction
accelerated. Soluble in alkali solution to produce zinc salts.

zinc base alloys of INDIAN SMELTING & REFINERY CO. LIMITED
ISMAK-3
Mainly used in Automobile, Zip Fasteners, Silder for
Zippers, Industries for die casting of components, such as Carburettors, Textile
Machinery parts, Locks, Door handles, Window operating handles, Window frames,
Large radiation grills and cowling, Defence components etc.
ISMAK-5
Superior to ISMAK-3 in strength because of small
percentage of Copper and therefore used for more highly stressed parts &
sophisticated casting like Regulators for Gas Cylinders and superior quality
Sliders for Zipper. The other uses are for camera.cine projector parts and other
large electrical instruments.
ZINC ALUMINIUM GALFAN ALLOY
Added in the zinc bath for the
purpose of better fluidity and brightness. The steel/sheets tubes are passes
through the bath for galvanizing in continuous process.

Over 11 million tonnes of zinc is produced annually worldwide. Around 48% of the amount is used
for galvanizing to protect steel from corrosion. Approximately 17% is used the
production of zinc base alloys like die castings etc. Nearly 10% of the zinc is
also utilized for compounds such as zinc oxide and zinc sulfate and about 11% is
used in the alloys especially brass.
Galvanising:
Zinc is one of the best forms of protection against corrosion and is used
extensively in building, construction, infrastructure, household appliances,
automobiles, steel furniture, and more. Galvanising accounts for around 48% of
global zinc usage.
Zinc Oxide:
The most widely used zinc compound, zinc oxide is used in the vulcanisation of rubber, as well as
in ceramics, paints, animal feed, pharmaceuticals, and several other products
and processes. A special grade of zinc oxide has long been used in photocopiers.
10% of global zinc usage is in this segment.
Die Castings:
Zinc is an ideal material for die casting and is extensively used in hardware, electrical
equipments, automotive and electronic components. 17% of zinc used in the word
is through Die Castings.
Alloys:
Zinc is extensively used in making alloys, especially brass, which is an alloy of copper and
zinc. Alloy accounts for around 11% of global zinc usage.
Rolled Zinc:
Zinc sheets are used extensively in the building industry for roofing, flashing and weathering
applications. These are also used in graphic art to make plates and blocks, as
well as battery callouts and coinage.
Galvanized and zinc for the manufacture of brass, manganese bronze, tin,
batteries and light alloy on the shuttle and the protective layer for other
metals. Zinc is an important reducing agent in organic synthesis industry. Used
in alloys, the main surface of galvanized sheet metal, also used in making the
batteries, fireworks, as a catalyst and reducing agent.
